The Finest of Ladies

I was in a NJ mall the other day and came across these beauties...

yup...that is a she-mullett on the right

22 December 2008

Brrrrrrrr.........

Its cold out there...

Where did it come from? The other day it was in the 30s.

This morning, I get in my car to go to work, and it says 15....THAT IS COLD!

Also, pretty good game yesterday. Another STRONG performance from the D. Good to see Ryan Plackemeir finally get a good game under his belt. Offense continues to sputter along.

It will be interesting to see how the team attacks the off-season.

Have some pride, and beat the 9ers!

Tix for 'Skins

I posted craigslist ads in Philly and in Washington for today's games. Barely a nibble, and with Dallas losing last night, Philly is now in 2nd place in the NFC East, and basically controls their destiny...

Lets just hope for a win, and see if we can knock 'em out...

Hand Washing

Did you ever think about how many people when in the bathroom at the office go #1, and if they are the only people in there, will just walk on out...

OR...

When they go #1, and decide they need to wash their hands, only because someone else is in there too, and they do not want the reputation of being, "the guy who doesn't wash his hands after going to the bathroom....

Things that make you go hmmmm!

17 December 2008

HOLD...

I have been on hold for in excess of 1 hour with Citibank to discuss my mortgage. On the upside, they have some nice jazz music playing, that is actually nice to listen to, while trying to get some work done.

If they would only stop interupting the music to tell me how important my call is to them, and to please stay on hold...

Go Caps...

I became a big hockey fan about 7 years ago, when I was given access to a whole lot of tickets. I started to learn the game, and understand some of the nuances, the players, and the personalities.

It quickly became my 2nd favorite professional sport behind football, and quickly outpaced my lack of interest in professional baseball and far exceeded my distaste of professional basketball.

For the 1st 4-5 years of my "fandom," the Caps were never very good (except in 98 when they made the miraculous run to the Stanley Cup, only to be easily swept by the Red Wings). However, over the past few years, they have steadily built what is looking like a Championship Team.

Given my affinity for Washington sports, it is refreshing to watch the development of a professional sports team "done right." Dan Snyder just does not get it. Buying a championship does not work. Ernie Grunfeld does not get it. Keeping with what does not work (i.e. Jamison and Arenas) will only get you to the 2nd/3rd round of the playoffs, and certainly not a championship. I believe that Stan Kasten and Jim Bowden have the right idea, but that is really going to take some time before they see the fruit of their labor.

The Caps leadership knew it was going to get worse, before it got better. They have developed such a young core group of players, here in Washington, as well as in Hershey and South Carolina. This team is going to win a Cup. It is an exciting time to be a fan...

Kudos to Ted Leonsis, George McPhee, and Bruce Boudreau...

Go Caps...

Babies 'R' Racist

I spent some time on Saturday at Babies R U doing some XMas shopping for friends and family, and came across this toy.

I am not sure if this toy is trying to teach my child to speak Spanish, or teach him to be a racist...

you be the judge!

Distraught!!!

I do not know how a Redskins season, which started with so much hope and promise, can end, so simply, and what seemed, so suddenly.

People are calling for Zorn's head. I am not sure if it is warranted, as much as people should be calling for the head of Vinny Ceratto. This guy has the lethal combination of being overpaid and over-STUPID. He has no business being a GM, let alone Snyder's right hand man! Case in point...great pick up on Shaun Alexander. Great pick up on Erasmus James. Hell....great pick up on Jason Taylor. We aint getting those draft picks back!

I do not want BILL COWHER. He is not the solution to our problems!

We need to develop some youth at the Offensive Line, some ability at Defensive End, and figure out someway to get those 3 knucklehead 2nd Round Draft Picks from '08 (Thomas, Kelly, Davis) to pull their respective head's out of their respective a$$es.

JUST AWFUL!

Not Sure What To Comment On Today...

it seems to be a slow news day, and its been busy at work...

but here are some random thoughts for you to chew on!
  • The Illinois Governor should not even be given the right to a fair trial...throw his a$$ in jail!
  • Figuring out how to re-finance your home is difficult
  • I am ready for 1 good snowstorm. I am talking a solid foot of snow. The type that shuts DC down for a few days
  • It pisses me off, when people schedule meetings you have to go to on Friday afternoons
  • The trade the Wizards made was a mistake...way to send away the toughest guy on an already SOFT team...keep losing LOSERS!
  • Lehigh wrestling seems to be back to its old self, after a pretty dismal year last year

What do you think about that???

When you look that up in the dictionary you might find a picture of the following:

Nice Garment!

I was looking at cnn.com and this was the front picture...I didn't even care what the article was about...I just like his hair, and even more, I dig the St. Louis Blues hockey (is that a T-Shirt, or a hockey sweater, a jersey)...

Who cares...it is AWESOME!

I had a team lunch today, and by accident I had 3 Jack Daniels....

WHOOPS! I hate when that happens!

File Under...

Things you do not see everyday...

About 6 months ago, we had our master bathroom remodeled...they did a pretty good job. My wife and I were happy.

After a while, we noticed a few things that needed fixing. Really nothing major, so we called up the contractor, asked if he was willing to correct the mistakes, and he said yes. It took them a while to get there, but they did. It was a 2 part effort, of which the 1st part was done last week.

One guy, who I recongized, arrived this morning around 7ish, and went right into the bathroom, closed the door and started working. After about an hour, I decided to go in and check on him, as I thought the work would be minor, and not take that long to fix.

He said "come in" in broken English, and in I walk in, only to see him sitting on the toilet, reading People Magazine. He doesnt even speak English!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

ps, He was just sitting, it not like he was going #1 or #2...but still!!!

2008 Movies

I am not much of a movie buff...but it seems 2008 was not particularly a good year for movies.

The only one that stuck out in my mind was the Batman movie (The Dark Night), and that is only because of all the pub that Heath Ledger got, you know with being dead and all.

This is a pretty cool picture:Other movies that I remember are
  • Juno
  • The Bank Job (maybe my favorite movie of the year)
  • 27 Dresses

In other words...a bad year!

Quiet Day...

Does not seem to be much going on today...

It seems kinda scary that XMas is only 23 short days away, and someone who prides themself on being organized, I have done literally nothing as it relates to the Holidays.

I could just decide to celebrate Festivus:

Cabinet Posts

As President-Elect (cringe!!!) Obama names his cabinet level designees, for the most part, I dont have issue or care who they are, because at the end of the day, it just does not affect my day-to-day activities...

However...

Secretary of Defense: I am happy to see that Robert Gates is staying on in this post for a number of reasons:
  1. He seems to have brought some steadiness and resolve to this position, in following, what I believe to have been a pretty bad run by Mr. Rumsfeld. Not as bad as most people made it out to be...but bad!
  2. In this time of War, we need 1 vision, 1 strategy, and 1 voice leading the Troops. I believe this helps that mission
  3. I think it shows some gusto, and some intelligence by President-Elect Obama to continue on with a Republican appointee.

Secretary of State: Naming Hilary R. Clinton is a massive mistake in my mind. Do we really want this as the face of our country internationally. I understand she has outstanding contacts internationally, based on her time as the President, I mean "1st Lady" but come on. This woman is a criminal, and divisive in nature. This is a mistake of utter proportions.

WORK???

Back to work today for the 1st time in about 5 weeks. Talk about a 180!

Oh, and by the way...The Skins were terrible yesterday!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Skins...

As I have stated in the past, and will continue to do so...

"A win, is a win, is a win"

We need to do the following things to be successful, from here on out:
  • GET HEALTHY
  • Better conversion rates in the Red Zone
  • Make our field goals, when we attempt them
  • Lets try Jason Taylor in the Red Zone.
  • Dont fumble the ball when the game is on the line
  • RIDE CLINTON PORTIS, until his limbs fall off
  • PROTECT JC!

Do these, and the Skins might finish with something like a 10-6, maybe even an 11-5 record.

Oh, one other thing...

STAY HORNY FOR ZORNY

24 November 2008

So Long Eddie!

I was hoping for 0-81, but a 1-10 start sure makes me laugh, and clearly does not make the Wizards management chuckle...

Where Do I Begin?

Had dinner with a few friends the other night at the Cheesecake Factory.
  • I hate that place! Didn't like it before I went, didn't like it after I left.
  • We had a waitress who was as a dumb as a rock!
  • What are you suppose to order there? What is the go-to? The menu is so immense, and so diverse, that it makes life more difficult than enjoyable!
  • The topic of the show "Arrested Development" came up, and I made a comment about the band! I liked them!

  • I even owned this album!
  • A GAME OF HORSESHOES!!!
On another topic, I was having dinner last night with a number of friends and we started to play "Catch Phrase." A lot of people enjoy this game, while others find it thoroughly annoying. The joy I have in playing is hearing how the same people begin to give clues, when they receive the device. Here are some examples:
  • OK! OK ! OK! OK! OK! OK!
  • Oh My GOD!
  • $hit! $hit! $hit!

Finally, the wife's lease on the "family car" is ending, and I do not even know where to begin!

  • Buy out the lease on the current car (which we like)
  • Lease or Buy a new car???
  • What options do we want vs. need???

Great To See...

For PGA fans out there, it is not terribly uncommon to hear about a player calling a foul on themselves. This might incur a 1 or 2 shot penalty.

Sometimes worse things happen, such as when they sign an incorrect scorecard, they are DQed from that one tournament.

That said, we often find ourselves fans of players, based not only on their play, but how they interact with fans, the media, and overall attitude on the course. Given the large fields in the PGA (I believe the number is usually 152 except for limited fields, or invitationals), players often get lost in the shuffle.

The link below tells a pretty incredible story, that despite what JP Hayes says, I do not believe a lot of guys would make this same call, especially when we are talking not 1 tournament, but basically your career:

http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=3712372

JP...you earned a fan in me! Good Luck, and I hope you get your PGA card back soon!

The Big 3

I think I agree with the Democrats on the issue of bailing out the Big 3 or not.

There seems to be a consensus that in the Long-term, the automakers are going to come out of this economic down-turn in 2010-2011.

The Republicans believe it is better to let them file for bankruptcy, restructure, and come out stronger and leaner on the upside.

I believe there are to many jobs at stake, and this industry has to large of an impact on the US and Global economies to let them fail.

Give them the money, and they will pay it back...

Worst case scenario, they start building cars that look like this:

The Victory Plate

I was watching TV in bed this morning, because I am a Desperate HouseHusband (at least for the month of November) and a commercial came on.

Now, I think I made it abundantly clear, where I stand on the political spectrum, but regardless of who won, is this not the most asinine thing you have ever seen???

http://www.victoryplate.com/

Here are my issues:
  1. Who wants this in their home??? The TV commercial shows it on someone's fireplace mantle, or just hanging on the wall. Would you really want to see the face of Barack Obama (or any major policitican) everytime you come home from a long day of work
  2. What if this guy is a complete disaster as a President?
  3. As this thing only has a limited casting...people are limited to purchasing only 2 plates...WHAT? Who would want more than 1...if any!!!

Personally...I would rather see a picture of this guy...but that is just me!

13 November 2008

Are You F'Ing Kidding Me???

Why are the 'Skins 2.5 point dogs, at home, with a better record???

12 November 2008

Who is Next???

They say when you become Champion of something, you revel in your victory for some short period of time, and then start to focus on winning your next one.

Given we know, barring something strange happening, who the Democrat is that will run for President in 2012, who is going to step up from the GOP???

Maybe it will be someone like Obama, who comes from no-where to win...

Does Vegas have a line on stuff like this?

2 DC Sports Thoughts

1. Big game for the Caps tonight. Going on the road to visit Carolina in a challenging SE rivarly. Hopefully Alex Ovechkin's goal the other night will kick-start the serious slump he was in the 9 previous games. Keep up the good play Brent Johnson.

2. I kind of hope the Wizards go 0-82. They suck!

I'm Not A Thief...

but I saw this picture on a blog I read, and it was to good to pass up!

11 November 2008

Olie The Goalie

Welcome back Olie!

I was happy to see the Caps fans last night welcome back one of the, if not THE LONGEST, tenured Washington Professional Sports Athlete ever.

I was sorry to see how things ended last year, but it was the right thing to do for both parties.

Great game by the Caps and Brent Johnson. He deserves to be the #1 right now, as Jose Theodore has not met any of the expectations that were laid on him. This was evident from the 1st goal of the 1st game.

Keep it up Caps, and hold your head high Olie...you have a lot to be proud of!

The Obamas

All the rage around Washington, as expected, is the Obamas visiting town, seeing the White House, and checking out what the future holds.

The link below from CNN, almost makes it sound like a party atmosphere, and that our new President-Elect, is living up to John McCain's moniker as a "Celebrity."

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/10/obamas.move/index.html

I will be interested in where they send the kids to school, for the following reasons:
  1. With the kids currently going to Private School in Illinois, I have no reason to believe they will change.
  2. Would you really want to send your children to DC Public Schools. I can think of smarter ideas
  3. The options listed in the CNN article are certainly intriguing, however, I do not see Maret and GDS as viable candidates, other than the fact both are located in the District with some proximity to the WH. Sidwell, certainly is, based on Chelsea & AG III. I think the article failed to mention NCS, which took the Gore daughters, and the sneaky candidate The Potomac School.

Time will tell!

Boxing vs. MMA

Before there was MMA, the only way to see someone get there a$$ kicked was to watch boxing. It sucked, as growing up, the great fighters like Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, and others all cost $50 bucks on PPV.

Then, with all the corruption in the sport, people, I feel, just gave up.

Just for fun, I recently watched on Showtime or HBO a Middleweight Championship Boxing Fight. It was horrible. I felt like I wasted 2 hours to see about 6 punches land! Never Again!

Along came MMA. Not only were the fights much more often, you got to see real action, as opposed to the 12 Round "Dancing With The Stars" that boxing had become.

I dont follow MMA in anyway (i.e. I only know a few guys by name), but if you are in the mood to see someone bloodied, knocked unconscious, or twisted in ways the human body are not suppose to, MMA is for you!

MD Slots

I am a gambling man!

I love Vegas, and am a big fan of A.C. (but not as much as Vegas).

Maryland passed Question 2 on Tuesday, which I believe will allow "Video Lottery" to be played at 5 locations around the State. Living in Virginia, I do not believe I am going to hop in my car anytime soon so that I can go play slots, but am hopeful that the "legalization" of gambling, which seems to be spreading throughout the country will start to make its way to the Old Dominion. Who knows what comes after slots...table games? poker? something else?

I am not sure we will see it in my lifetime, but it is certainly exciting to think that I could save myself from the 4 hour trips to the Southern tip of NJ or hopping a plane to the desert!

05 November 2008

Getting A Haircut

Reasons I do not like getting my hair cut:
  1. To quote a famous man: "Haircuts are like a box of chocolates...you never know what you are going to get!"
  2. I get my haircut at Hair Cuttery (maybe that is an issue all by itself), by a woman named Dee. Dee is Asian, and like all the other employees, barely speaks English. I usually just smile, nod my head, and hope for the best!
  3. I like Soft Rock as much as the next guy. I like ColdPlay and Dave Matthews, and groups like it, but you can never hear it because they always have the buzzers going, people coming in and out, telephones ringing. Why have it on and tease me
  4. OLD WOMEN: They go to Hair Cuttery, call it the salon, and come out with big poofy hair full of enough spray to open a massive hole in the Ozone
  5. Paying $16 dollars plus tip for the same haircut I have been getting for the last 25 years of my life. It never cost that much before, and dont tell me because the price of Scissors have gone up.

Am I wrong?

Wednesday After The Election

I fed the kid last night, and then went to sleep around 10.

It is now about 8am, and I do not know who has won. I think I know, which is why I have not turned on the TV and/or checked the web.

I cannot believe I am going to have to turn on the TV for the next 4, or even worse, the next 8 years and see this guy raising my taxes, ruining what progress we have made in Iraq and Afghanistan, and "fixing" healthcare.

I know I am not giving him a chance, but it hard to believe that he will not get what he wants with as powerful of a Senate and House as he is going to have.

I only hope that we have another year like '94, when 2 years into the Clinton Presidency, the House did a 180, based on the "Contract With America"

'Skins vs. Steelers

I sure am glad that I gave those tickets away...not much of a game to watch...Here is my weekly breakdown:

The Good:
  • Not a whole lot...Shaun Shuisham looked good in the first quarter
  • Demetric Evans continues to play at a high level

The Bad:

  • Carlos Rogers. CATCH THE F'ING BALL!
  • Rocky McIntosh. Had not left your feet, that 50 yard bomb from Leftwich to Washington never gets there

The Ugly:

  • People are getting off the "Horny for Zorny" train. His play calling was ATROCIOUS
  • The Offensive Line was non-existent
  • The blocked punt. I do not put this on Plackemeir. I am not sure where the guys who were suppose to be blocking were.

Well, we get some well needed rest, and we need to play well on the backside to keep this thing going. Must Wins are going to have to come on the road at SF, SEA, and Balti.

Bring on the Boys. I know we can beat them with Tony Romo, we have proven that. I would just rather play them with Brad Johnson or Brooks Bollinger.

Heal Up Fella, and dont get arrested (i.e. if Smoot invites you on a party boat, take a pass!)

03 November 2008

Random Thoughts...

1. It takes a while to get organized when you have a new kid. Its not like a dog or a plant, where you can just leave it, and hope that it doesnt eat the furniture or not get watered and wilt. This is the real deal!

2. Big one for the Skins tonight. I just looked up the line and was not the least surprised to see the Skins by 2.5. This is Vegas' way of saying...stay the hell away from this game, as anything can happen. Given the new kid, I gave my tickets up, but dont believe for one second, he will not be sitting on my lap watching this throwdown.

3. Side note on the Skins. Next weeks bye week cannot come soon enough. The skins seem banged up, and in need of some rest, especially with the pending game against the 'Boys that just might knock them out of the playoffs in week 11.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly"

'Skins vs. Lions

As I said last week, any win in the NFL is a good win, but we sure did not look great today, despite the stats looking like we did!

Here is this week's breakdown:

The Good:
  • Santana Moss...going off!
  • London Fletcher just another huge game!
  • CP running hard as always!
  • Carlos Rogers SHUTTING DOWN Calvin Johnson
The Bad:
  • Jon Jansen's penalties (even though he arguably saved the game for us by pouncing on that fumble)
  • LaRon Landry's push in the back! Bad timing, and not even close!
  • Stephon Heyer...you have work to do my friend!
The Ugly:
  • Easily the worst announcing crew around! Brian Billick is a freaking moron. He called Santana, Santonio at least 3 times by my count...also, who has a name of THOM???
  • Leigh Torrence. I am slow and white, and I think I am better than you.
  • The officiating crew did not seem to really be together today.
I am nervous about next week, but bring on the Terrible Towels. Hopefully we get healthy this week

The SF 49ers

I was happy to see that Mike Singletary got named HC in San Fran. He was a heck of a player in Chicago, and I remember watching him while I was growing up and thinking that he was always where the ball was!

However, when they mentioned the other coordinators, and other candidates for the job, they mentioned Greg Manusky!

WHAT????

Unfortunately, I could not find a fitting picture of Greg, but I distinctly remember Greg as part of the Redskins when he sported a serious mullet and Fu Man Chu. He was never much a player, but that was a damn good look!

Great Quote

I always enjoy reading Peter King's rehashing of the NFL week that was.

He always likes to add certain "tid-bits" that have nothing to do with football, but always make me chuckle...

From this week:

"Cialis: I have never met anyone who said to his wife or girlfriend: "Hey, let's take two claw-footed bathtubs out to the beach, put them side-by-side, sit in them, watch the sun set and hold hands awkwardly and uncomfortably."

Great stuff...

and remember...if you have a 4 hour "issue" you need to go see a Dr.

Tiger Woods

I am not the biggest fan of Tiger Woods. Never have been...

I have never cared for his personality, on or off the course. He is dry, focused, and provides little insight in regards to whatever he is discussing.

However, when you read an article like this one, it certainly makes him more amiable

'Skins vs. Browns

In the NFL, I will take a win, however we can get it...that being said:

The Good:
  • Another fantastic performance by CP...175 Yards and 1 TD. Give the guy a break on the fumble, it happens, and you hope it doesnt cost you...
  • JC - ZERO INTs this year
  • SM - A whirling dervish, and his blocking is getting better each week
  • The DEFENSE was a beast again. LF deserves to be in HAWAII at the end of the year. So does Carlos Rogers for that matter

The Bad:

  • The punting situation has not gotten any better, but at least it did not bite us in the arse.
  • Jim Zorn's play calling was very very conservative
  • Browns Fans. They are ugly and, well thats about it!

The Ugly:

  • Leigh Torrence just adds no value to this team on defense and/or special teams
  • Fred Davis...I am excited to see what you can do, but "slow motion" would be a generous description on your end-around. Just awful!

A WIN IS A WIN!!! BRING ON DETROIT!

Professional Introductions

This morning I attended a meeting where bagels and fruit were being served. I grabbed a half a bagel, spread some cream on it and sat down and started chowing down. This was before the meeting began.

I looked around the table and knew most of the people there. I looked one guy in the eye, who I did not recognize, but chose to say nothing, as I usually just look at his/her badge, or figure it out as part of the conversation.

Well this morning, after making eye contact, and choosing not to say anything, about 45 seconds later, he sticks his hand out to say hello, while I have cream cheese and bagel coming out of all parts of my mouth...

Thanks a lot for waiting until I can actually introduce myself properly...its not like I have the easiest last name to begin with, and it doesnt help when I am knee deep in breakfast...

It Makes Me Angry...

how many Obama commericals are on TV. I am guilty of watching a lot of TV (probably to much), but it seems that there is at a minimum, a 5:1 ratio of Obama to McCain ads.

I am somewhat resigned to the fact that he is going to win. While I have been unable to fully put my thoughts around that just yet, I guess the only thing I can do is hope for a resounding win tonight by McCain in the last debate!!!
